# About PKI Zero to Hero

Last reviewed 20 October 2026

PKI Zero to Hero is a place to learn how certificates and online trust work, made by Duyutech BV, a Belgian company based in Lochristi.

**Who this page is for:** anyone who wants to know who is behind the site, how it is paid for and whether they can trust what it says. Looking for where to begin? Go to [Pick your path](https://pkizerotohero.com/start/).

## What is PKI Zero to Hero?

PKI, public key infrastructure, is the system behind the padlock in your browser, signed software updates, secure email and much more. PKI Zero to Hero teaches it from zero, in several ways:

- **A game,** in early access: the first levels of the browser game are playable; more are in development. Ken, the castle’s IT guy, and Princess Rosa build a kingdom’s system of trust from scratch, one real PKI concept per level. [Play the game](https://pkizerotohero.com/play/).
- **The PKI Handbook:** 26 chapters and appendices, from the first secret key to post-quantum cryptography. [Open the handbook](https://pkizerotohero.com/handbook/).
- **A crash course:** ten short lessons for busy people, about 90 minutes in total. [Start the course](https://pkizerotohero.com/course/).
- **Browser tools** that decode and check certificates without sending them anywhere. [Try the tools](https://pkizerotohero.com/tools/).
- **Error pages** that explain real certificate error messages and how to fix them. [Find your error](https://pkizerotohero.com/errors/).
- **[What’s changing in PKI](https://pkizerotohero.com/changes/):** the dates that matter, updated every quarter.

## What is our mission?

To make PKI understandable for everyone: a curious 12-year-old, a developer fighting a certificate error, an engineer preparing for shorter certificate lifetimes, and a manager who has to decide what to do about it.

We believe this knowledge should be open to everyone, so **all learning is free**: every game level, every chapter, every lesson, every tool and every error page. No ads, no tracking.

## Who makes it?

PKI Zero to Hero is made and published by **Duyutech BV**, a private limited company registered in Belgium, with its registered office in Lochristi. The company details are in the [legal notice](https://pkizerotohero.com/legal/notice/).

## How do we make money?

We sell proof, organisation and goodwill, never the learning itself:

- **Proof:** the [Verified Pass](https://pkizerotohero.com/verified/), a one-time €29 purchase for verified credentials and a real X.509 Certificate of Completion. Coming later, with accounts.
- **Organisation:** [teams](https://pkizerotohero.com/teams/), with yearly seats, an admin page and a completion report. Coming soon.
- **Goodwill:** [supporters](https://pkizerotohero.com/support/) who want to help, and later one sponsor under public rules that give no say over content.

We will **never** show ads, sell or share personal data, or sell anything inside the game. We only measure visits with Google Analytics if you allow it.

## How is the content made?

- **Written with AI assistance.** The text is drafted with the help of AI writing tools, and then checked.
- **Checked against primary sources.** Every technical claim is checked against the source it depends on: the RFCs, the CA/Browser Forum’s requirements, NIST, the browsers’ root-program policies, vendor documentation and EU law on EUR-Lex. Dates and numbers come from a single list of dated facts, each with its source, so they can be updated in one place.
- **Reviewed by an expert.** An independent expert review is in progress. Until it is done, the content is marked “Early edition”.
- **Careful about common myths.** For example: a certificate does not encrypt anything, and a digital signature is not “encrypting with the private key”. We correct these wherever they come up.
- **Defensive only.** We explain attacks and incidents so you can understand and prevent them. We never publish step-by-step attack instructions.
