Boilerplate (150 words)

PKI Zero to Hero makes public key infrastructure (PKI) understandable for everyone. PKI is the system of certificates, keys and certificate authorities behind the HTTPS padlock, signed software and secure email, and it is changing fast: public TLS certificates will be valid for at most 47 days from 15 March 2029. The site offers the PKI Handbook, a crash course of ten short lessons, browser tools that never send your data anywhere, and plain-language guides to real certificate error messages, with no ads, and analytics only with consent. The first levels of the browser game are playable; more are in development. In the game, Ken, the castle’s IT guy, and Princess Rosa build a kingdom’s system of trust before Rosa’s coronation, one real PKI concept per level. Players who finish make a real X.509 certificate. PKI Zero to Hero is made by Duyutech BV, a Belgian company based in Lochristi. Learn more at pkizerotohero.com.

What makes it different?

  • The mechanic is the concept. In the game, every level teaches one real PKI idea, and the only way to win is to apply it.
  • Real certificates, not pictures of them. The tools decode real X.509 certificates in your browser, and the game ends with players making a real certificate of their own.
  • An honest business model. The project earns money from verified credentials, team seats and supporters, never from the learning itself, ads or data.
  • One site for every reader. The same material serves a teenager, a developer with an error message and a manager planning for shorter certificate lifetimes.
